Frequently Asked Questions about Accessories for IBC tanks, Drums and Jerricans.

What are the elements to be considered for the choice of a valve?

In order to choose correctly your valve, you must consider the following elements:

- Name of your IBC manufacturer.

- Name of the substance stored in the IBC, in order to find the good gasket (EPDM, FPM, etc.).

- Wanted functionality (ball valve, butterfly valve, etc.)

- Discharge diameter (at the enter of the valve) and the exit diameter of the IBC pocket.

Can I change the valve of my IBC by myself?

You can change yourself the valve of your container. With this intention, you will need a wrench (sometimes according to the mark of packing). However, in the case of approved containers, the new valve has to be in conformity with approval official report).

The valve handles are available in different colors, what does it mean?

Valve handles are coloured in order to identify easily the gasket contained inside. Depending on the substance stored, different types of valves are available :

- Valve with a grey-white handle > VITON gasket.

- Valve with a red handle > EPDM gasket.

- Valve with a green handle > EPDM-FDA gasket.

- Valve with a black handle > NBR gasket.

- Valve with a violet handle > VITON-FDA gasket

How do I check the diameter of my valve?

You'll have to measure the diameter on thread of the valve.

What are the different types of pipe thread?

The most widespread types of pipe thread are :

- BSP Pipe thread

- DIN Pipe thread (S60x6, S92x4, S100x8)

What are the different types of thread?

Two types of thread are available. The first one, named "male" because of its external thread and the second one, named "female" because of its internal thread.

What are the different types of gaskets and to which products are they associated?

The three most widespread types of gasket are :

- VITON (= FPM = FKM)

- EPDM (Ethylène-Propylene-Diene)

- NBR (= Butadiene Acrylonitrile = Nitrile)

In order to know to which products theses gaskets are associated, please consult our Chemical resistance of valve gaskets table, compatibility section.

I have an IBC and I want to connect a pipe adaptor? Is it possible?

Yes, but first of all, you have to check several elements like the brand of the container, the exit diameter of the valve (discharge) and the thread of the valve (male or female).

We have in our catalogue many adaptations allowing you to change the thread and the pipe.

We invite you to consult it regularly or to call us directly for more information.
